iciHaiti - Pétion-ville : Inauguration of the first technical and professional high school
Monday, January 9, 2023, accompanied by Nesmy Manigat, the Minister of National Education and several other members of the ministerial cabinet, the Prime Minister a.i. Ariel Henry, inaugurated the brand new buildings of the Technical and Vocational High School Joseph C. Bernard of Frères (municipality of Pétion-Ville), the first high school of its kind in Haiti.

Not only, this secondary school add to the public school system, but it also reflects the creation of a new training offer that addresses the concerns of many young people seeking, very early, to master a trade while continuing their school path. This new training offer is proving to be a new opportunity for young people and for society.

The financing of this Lycée was provided entirely by the National Education Fund (FNE). At the height of 126 million Gourdes specified, Jean Ronald Joseph the Director General of the FNE who said he was satisfied with this work including the construction of two reinforced concrete buildings, respecting seismic and parcyclonic standards.

These two buildings have 9 classrooms, a computer room with about thirty computers, two rooms dedicated to administrative services; all distributed on two levels. Ramps to facilitate access for people with reduced mobility equip this establishment.

“[…] This Joseph C. Bernard technical and vocational high school responds to a double demand and a double commitment. It is, on the one hand, for the State to broaden access to education in this municipality whose population has increased considerably in recent years and to meet the demand of parents looking for a school quality public service for their children.

On the other hand, it is a question of offering better opportunities and equal chances to all young people by allowing them to integrate the job market through high-level professional and technical training,” said the Prime Minister. Henry adding "[...] It's a small revolution that is coming with the training of young people who will have the option of a technical baccalaureate and will be better prepared to face the challenges of the modern world and of our dear Haiti which has so much need for qualified human resources in order to meet the needs of industry and the service sector."
