iciHaiti - Security : Monitoring process for repatriating the body of the Kenyan police officer killed in Haiti
Following the press release published on February 23, 2025 concerning the death of Samuel Tompoi Kaetuai, Kenyan Administrative Police Officer (APC) of the Multinational Mission for Security Support (MMSS) during an operation in Segur-Savien https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-44351-haiti-news-zapping.html where he demonstrated exceptional heroism, going beyond the call of duty, and paid with his life for his commitment to his mission, the Kenyan police fraternity continues to share the mourning with family, friends and colleagues.

Steps to repatriate his remains from the Dominican Republic (where he is currently located) to Kenya are underway. The Mission officials, the National Police Service, the Dominican Republic External Relations Office, as well as the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs are working in constant coordination. The finalization of the necessary documents is underway, and logistical arrangements for the transportation of the body are being made with the relevant authorities.

As a gesture of solidarity, Leslie Voltaire, the President of the Transitional Council of Haiti, visited the Mission headquarters on March 1, 2025 to offer his condolences. Special recognition is also extended to the various ambassadors to Haiti who have sent messages of sympathy. Furthermore, on Sunday, March 2nd, 2025, the Inspector General of the National Police Service, Douglas Kanja, visited Tompoi’s family and loved ones at his home in Kajiado County, Kenya, where he hailed him as a hero who lost his life in the line of duty.

As we mourn the loss of our officer, the Mission reaffirms its commitment to the people of Haiti. "MSS promises the Haitian people continued cooperation with the Nation Haiti Police (PNH), more decisive operations and shall continue with patrols to disrupt any gang activities."
