Nationalization of the Methodist School of Source-à-Philippe

On Friday, June 26, 2026, Vijonet Déméro, the Minister of National Education (MENFP), and Pastor Gelin Rosamour, Superintendent of the Methodist Church of Haiti, jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) concerning the nationalization of the Methodist School of Source-à-Philippe, located in the fourth communal section of Pointe-à-Raquettes, in the commune of the same name.

The signing of this MoU confirms that this school will transition from a parochial to a public institution. This means that the Ministry will assume responsibility for operating costs starting with the next academic year and will include the school in the program for providing textbooks, teaching materials, and furniture. The Ministry's responsibilities also include the maintenance of the premises, the evaluation of administrative staff and teachers before their integration into the civil service system, and pedagogical supervision.

Prior to the signing of this MoU authorizing the nationalization of the Methodist School of Source-à-Philippe, the Minister had already taken other decisions aimed at increasing and diversifying educational opportunities and improving the quality of education in the La Gonâve School District. These decisions relate to the opening of the Tamarin National High School (Grand-Vide), the Abricots National High School (Grand-Lagon), and the Center for Higher and Technical Education (CEST) on La Gonâve Island, one of the campuses of the Public University of the West (UPO).
