iciHaiti - Cap-Haitien : Classification of certain buildings as communal heritage
The Municipality of Cap-Haitien has taken a new decisive step in protecting the architectural heritage of the commune. As part of the implementation of the building permit order, the Municipal Commission announces the official declaration of several historic buildings as "Communal Heritage". This decision reflects the unwavering will of the municipal authorities to defend the heritage identity of Cap-Haïtien.

The buildings concerned, selected for their high historical and architectural value, are now recognized as "HERITAGE VALUES" of the commune. Any intervention or modification on these buildings must imperatively obtain the written authorization of the Town Hall and the technical approval of ISPAN. This measure aims to prevent any irreversible degradation or alteration of these jewels of the past.

The historic city center is our common heritage. It tells the story of our ancestors, emblematic figures such as Anténor Firmin and Rosalvo Bobo, whose homes are part of this prestigious selection. Any damage to these buildings is an attack on our collective memory and the very identity of Cap-Haïtien.

Strong measures to preserve the integrity of heritage

Each building registered as Communal Heritage will now be identified by an official plaque, a symbol of its importance and inestimable value. This measure aims to raise awareness among the population and remind everyone that protecting heritage is everyone's business. Citizens, owners and investors are formally required to comply with these new regulations. No changes may be made without the approval of the City Hall and ISPAN.

The buildings affected by this decision include, among others :

Anténor Firmin's house (Street 4 F on the corner)
Rosalvo Bobo's house (Street 12-13 1)
Durand's house (Street 13 1)
Marti's house (Street 13-14 1)
Delorme's house (Street 13-14 K)
Nazan's house (Street 14-D on the corner)
Nord Alexis' house (Street 16 F on the corner)
Pension André (Street 16-H on the corner)
The attic house (maison à combles) (Street 20 F on the corner)
SAM's house (Street 19 D on the corner)

The Municipal Commission of Cap-Haitien calls on each citizen to mobilize to protect these monuments. Safeguarding our heritage is a collective mission, a duty to our ancestors and a responsibility to future generations. We must be the guardians of this unique wealth that is the pride of our community.
