iciHaiti - Security : Haiti and Colombia coordinate their efforts in the fight against drug and arms trafficking
During his recent stay in Colombia https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-43502-haiti-cop-16-president-leslie-voltaire-on-official-trip-to-colombia.html , Leslie Volaire, President pro Tempore of the Transitional Council, discussed with Colombian President Gustavo Petro the problem of drug and arms trafficking whose central maritime axis is the route from the North of Colombia to the South of Haiti.

The two leaders agreed to coordinate their efforts, to establish marine patrols with the security forces of both countries to combat illegal drug and arms trafficking, two scourges that today affect social structures by generating addictions and violence.

Historical notes indicate that the border between the two nations is an international maritime boundary that crosses the Caribbean Sea and is defined by the Liévano-Brutus Treaty, signed on February 17, 1978.

Let's recall that Haiti and Colombia have maintained diplomatic and friendly relations since 1820. Haiti supported the Colombian War of Independence, serving as inspiration and refuge for the liberator Simón Bolívar. Haiti provided 7 ships, 4,000 bayonet rifles, 15,000 pounds of powder, 15,000 pounds of lead, flints for rifles, provisions, money and 3,500 men.
