iciHaiti - DR : An important meeting for Haitian children in the streets
Sherline Céliscar, the new Acting Consul and Head of Post of the Consulate General of Haiti in Santiago, Dominican Republic, met last week at the Consulate with Ms. Natividad Rodriguez, the head of the Cibao North region of the National Council for Youth and Adolescence (CONANI).

The discussions focused on the various programs underway, but it was mainly a first contact as Acting Head of Post.

Ms. Céliscar intends to maintain the steps aimed at protecting and treating Haitian children on the streets in the Cibao region. To this end, Ms. Céliscar presented her files, but their development has been scheduled for a future meeting.

CONANI intends to strengthen programs to protect street children in the region. Thus, after the Family Placement Program (PAF) it is the turn of the Technical Operational Unit (UTO) which will work constantly, in order not only to support Haitian children in difficult situations, but above all to try to eradicate the phenomenon of street children...

This first meeting was important not only for the Consulate General of Haiti in Santiago but especially for CONANI which was delighted to see that Consul Céliscar intended to follow up on the process and intensify the work at the appropriate time in order to achieve the expected result.

The two leaders agreed to visit the CONANI accommodation centers. Soon, within the limits of its possibilities, the Consulate General of Santiago will provide Haitian street children with the necessary support, because the problem of Haitian children in the streets of the Consulate's jurisdiction as well as their rights represent urgent concerns as does the status of each migrant living in the CIBAO region for the new Console.
