iciHaiti - Disability : Continuing training for BSEIPH employees
To be able to better serve and understand people with disabilities, Genard Joseph, the Secretary of State for the Integration of People with Disabilities, made available to employees of the Office of the Secretary of State for the Integration of People with Disabilities (BSEIPH) an ongoing training series which takes place every Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The concept of disability and the different types of deficiency were deciphered by Jean Evens Pierre. He explained to the participants that impairment is a limitation in a person's body while disability is linked to an unsuitable environment. The different types of deficiency were listed and then explained in simple and clear language to BSEIPH employees.

How to interact with people with visual impairments ? This is the subject which was developed by Eddy Lemaire who explained that it is always necessary to establish body language with a blind person in order to be able to help them. On the other hand, he stressed that you should always audibly call a blind person by his name. People with a visual impairment do not need overprotection but support, and we should especially not take pity on a blind person who hates this type of behavior, he said.

Clemanor St Cir and Saul Brunel gave a presentation of Braille writing. Recalling that the inventor of this writing, Louis Braille, himself became blind after being the victim of an accident.

To close this training, Jean Richard Dorisme and Beauge Olson taught the participants the basic notions of sign language. Through their way of leading and teaching, these two professionals made it easier for participants to quickly assimilate this language used by the hearing impaired.

Through this continuing training, BSEIPH employees are called upon to better serve people with disabilities in the performance of their duties.
