iciHaiti - Gang warfare : UN teams helps displaced families 01/05/2022 09:35:19
UN teams in Haiti are mobilizing to meet the urgent needs of displaced populations, following the territory war between rival gangs "400 Mawoazo" and "Chen Mechan" in the metropolitan area https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-36528-haiti-flash-at-least-20-civilians-killed-in-gang-fighting-zones.html , forcing people to flee their homes.
A rapid assessment was conducted by the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) early warning team of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA-Haiti) Haiti and UNICEF Haiti. At the Town Hall of Tabarre and Place Clercine, discussions with Civil Protection, Local Authorities and Representatives of displaced households have made it possible to identify the main needs of these hundreds of displaced persons, including several families with young children, pregnant women and people with disabilities.
UN agencies are providing the displaced population with medical assistance, emergency relocation and livelihood support.
