iciHaiti - Great South : Rehabilitation of 46 schools in the Great South by the start of the school year
Last week Nesmy Manigat, the Minister of National Education accompanied by his Chief of Staff Jacques Abraham; exchanged with Schiller Caton Coordinator of the project "For Quality Education in Haiti (PEQH)", executives of the representation of the World Bank in Haiti and Martin Arevalo De Leon and Achille Théodore III, heads of the United Nations Office for Project Support Services (UNOPS).

Participated by videoconference Quynh Nguyen, Education Portfolio Manager at the World Bank office in Haiti; Christian Ubertini, infrastructure manager; Claudia Lopez and Janine Zaugg, specialists in Education.

In view of the start of the 2022-2023 school year (next September), the PEQH plans to rehabilitate 46 schools in the Great South. In addition, as part of the PROMESSE project, which should come into effect during the 2023-2024 academic year, around twenty schools will be rebuilt and around ten others will be rehabilitated according to the standard plans developed by the Department of School Engineering of the Ministry.

Each of these basic schools will respect the scheme of 9 classes for fundamental and 2 classes for preschool, and with a total of at least 410 seats.

In the Great South, the PEQH project supports 105 schools for which it has collected data relating to the site, the condition of the building, the toilets, the kitchen and the availability of water.
