iciHaiti - Post-earthquake 2010 : Inauguration of the new parish church of Saint-Gérard Majella
On January 9 will remain forever engraved in the hearts of parishioners and in the annals of the Redemptorist Congregation as the date of the inauguration of the new parish church of Saint-Gérard Majella in the Carrefour-Feuilles district near Port-au-Prince.

Almost 12 years after the earthquake that destroyed the old church and after four years of hard work, Bishop Max Leroy Mesidor Port-au-Prince inaugurated the new parish church in a solemn and joyful atmosphere.

The new church, although large, was still too small to accommodate the many who wanted to attend the celebration.

In his speech, Father Jean-Claudel Pierre thanked the Lord for this work and the Archbishop for his pastoral care of the faithful of Saint-Gérard as well as the architects, engineers and workers who helped to rebuild this church. He also thanked all the institutions and individuals who made a financial contribution.

Recalling in conclusion, that after this inauguration, the church will have to be fully completed in a second phase of work and that the generosity of parishioners and all people of good will continues to be necessary.
