iciHaiti - Security : New Dominican reinforcements at the border
Due to the socio-political instability and the increase in violent demonstrations shaking Haiti, Brigadier General Pedro Pablo Hurtado, Commander of the 5th Infantry Brigade of the Dominican Army has sent soldiers to reinforce those who permanently monitor the border from Pedernales to Jimaní.

In addition, Commander Hurtado declared that after the passage of the storm Laura which caused considerable damage to the perimeter fence between Pedernales and Anse-à-Pitre, due to a strong flood of the river which caused the collapse of approximately 2 kilometers of fence, increased surveillance has been put in place in this area pending reconstruction of the fence.

He explained that by order of Major General Julio Ernesto Florián Pérez, Commander of the Dominican Army, he launched the operation "Bayahonda" intended to protect the border and which can also act in the control and fight against trafficking drugs, weapons and human beings, illegal immigration and smuggling of various goods...

He indicated that with the support of General Pérez, the number of soldiers had been increased in the region to prevent any activity that could affect the sovereignty of the Dominican territory.

Likewise, General Hurtado spoke of the "Reaction Force", a Special Unit made up of 15 men fully equipped with the latest technologies and specially trained to achieve targeted objectives in Pedernales and Jimaní, without providing further details on the missions of this new special unit.
