Haiti - Cuba : Premiere of «Encuentro» 15/01/2020 07:57:56
On one side the famous Haitian pianist Réginald Policard, on the other the no less talented Cuban pianist, Alejandro Falcòn, gathered on the same stage with their musicians. Alejandro Falcòn is a composer, arranger and producer. Leader of the Cubadentro jazz-project for 10 years, he fused there with talent all genres of Cuban and Latin music, in particular danzòn, Afro-Cuban rhythms and jazz. Versatile pianist, also songwriter, Réginald Policard is the founder of the famous group Caribbean Sextet. He evolved through different styles from konpa to jazz or Latin jazz, before moving towards smooth kreyol jazz. Recall that the "Encuentro" project was born in 2019, like a creative jam session between exceptional musicians from all over the Caribbean. Encuentro is a creative meeting between exceptional musicians from Cuba and Haiti. It is the musical projection of the crucible of this Caribbean of music, so diverse and so close at the same time. After the Cuban tour where Encuentro will perform at the Jazz Plaza festival in Havana (January 14/15) and in Santiago (January 16/17), PAP JAZZ 2020 will host in Haiti for the first time, January 21 on the stage of Quisqueya University, this "assembly" of tones and cultures. Philippe Bayard, president of Sunrise Airways wanted to concretize the idea of this Caribbean fusion, in the direct line of his vision of the Caribbean, which he wishes to see becoming, "One Caribbean", both multiple and unique, as the slogan of its airline Sunrise Airways indicates. Sunrise's sister company, tour operator Explore Caribbean, joined the project to allow the group to tour Cuba. The Encuentro project aims to create a "space-time" where musicians from Cuba, Haiti and Santo Domingo meet today, but which could welcome those from Jamaica, Martinique, Trinidad or Saint Lucia tomorrow...
