iciHaiti - Road safety : The PNH High Staff in front of the Senate
Thursday Michel-Ange Gédéon, the Director General of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) accompanied by several members of the High Staff responded to questions from members of the Standing Senate Committee "Justice, Security and National Defense" chaired by the Senator Jean Renel Sénatus, on the measures envisaged to reduce the number of accidents and victims on the roads of the country which has increased considerably lately. Recall that between the June 29 and August 5, 2018 (37 days), no less than 151 accidents were reported on the roads in Haiti causing 333 victims including 61 dead and 272 wounded https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-25195-haiti-security-151-road-accidents-and-333-victims-in-37-days.html

While recalling that the issue of road traffic was not only the responsibility of the PNH, Michel-Ange Gédéon said he intended to strengthen the training of motorcycle taxis drivers, one of the main sources of accidents on our roads, increase the presence of road police from next September and reactivate the vehicle inspection service. In addition, it was mentioned the nationalization of the traffic service to set up a traffic management in all departments of the country.

As usual, Gédéon did not fail to recall the lack of means of the PNH and wished an upward revision of the envelope of the institution in the next budget to face the multiple challenges confronted by the National Police
