iciHaiti - Social : World Day Against Human Trafficking
As part of the World Day Against Human Trafficking (30 July), the Office for the Protection of the Citizen (OPC) recalled that human trafficking was a global problem with serious violations of human dignity and depriving victims of their rights.

The OPC pointed out that in Haiti, the situation was not different. The weakness of the judicial system, the poverty, the corruption and the social inequalities in which one evolves have favored the traffickers. It must be admitted that much effort has been made to combat this scourge. As an example, it can be noted that the ratification of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Crime and its protocol, the adoption of the law of 2 June 2014, the establishment of the National Committee for Combating Trafficking in Trafficking. People testify of the State's willingness to strengthen its legal and institutional framework in this area. However, concrete measures to prosecute individuals involved in the phenomenon of human trafficking and to assist victims are ineffective.

The Office encourages the State authorities to provide the National Committee against the Human Trafficking in order to meet its mission of coordinating and implementing the Government's public policies on human trafficking.
