iciHaiti - Flag 215th : Message of the Consul of Haiti in Chicago
Friday at Kizin Creole in Chicago, Lesly Condé, the Consul General of Haiti in Chicago delivered a message as part of the celebration of the 215th anniversary of the creation of our Bicolore, which we invite you to read :

Message from the Consul Lesly Condé :

« Distinguished members of the Community,
Dear friends of Haiti,
Ladies and gentlemen

We are gathered to commemorate the 215th anniversary of the creation of the Haitian bi-color I am more than proud to be with you on this occasion, and to convey to you the warmest greetings from the Consulate General of Haiti in Chicago.

As always, I will begin by congratulating the Haitian Congress for Fortifying Haiti which is always at the rendezvous of important dates in our history, and the celebration of our identity. I also applaud all the other community organizations whose participation contributed to the success of this patriotic activity.

I will start this time by saying that our national emblem deserves to be acclaimed wherever there are humans who want to cling to the ideals of justice and freedom. The courage and determination of my ancestors should be known to all because what happened on May 18, 1803 in Arcahaie was not only the action of a group of men and women against the horrors of slavery but a firm and deliberate gesture against all injustice and tyranny wherever they come from. The French flag, which in the eyes of my ancestors represented the most powerful and ferocious tyranny, was torn in a bold and solemn gesture. Thus was born the symbol of the first black nation of the New World. This flag, which has inspired and still inspires nations around the world, must, all the more, encourage us since it speaks of us. He challenges us. It is the symbol of universal freedom that this world has chosen not to honor. But this blue and red is our national emblem, and we are enormously proud of it.

In closing, I would like to congratulate again the Haitian Congress for Fortifying Haiti which has always remained faithful to its commitments to Haiti and Haitians. I also thank all the other community organizations that contributed to the success of this great activity. In the spirit of our valiant ancestors, let's embark together on the highway of change of the 21st century and let us be guided by democracy because after all, we can only rely on ourselves."
