The number of Haitians trying to enter the Dominican Republic illegally has been increasing since the beginning of the year. Friday, January 5, the Specialized Corps of Border and Land Security (CESFRONT), reported that for the first 4 days of the year, 3,200 Haitians entered Dominican territory illegally were arrested during joint operations of the the army, navy and air force in several points of the border, including Tamarindo, Copey, Matas de Santa Cruz, Cañongo and the provinces of Montecristi and Dajabón, Jimaní, Barahona and Pedernales and returned to Haiti by Migration Services.
