iciHaiti - Justice : Cabaret Women's Civil Prison, urgency to act
A delegation from the Citizens' Initiative for Human Rights (ICDH) visited the Cabaret Women's Civil Prison to assess the conditions of detention of women and girls and make the necessary recommendations.

The detention center houses 231 women, including about 30 minors and an infant of about 3 months. 40 of these prisoners have been tried and are serving their sentences. The other 191 women are awaiting trial, many of whom have been detained for too long without being able to appear.

On the hygienic level, efforts are needed to enable these women and girls in detention to have access to certain essential sanitary products (sanitary napkins, laundry and bath soaps, toilet paper, etc...)

The ICDH recommends that the judicial authorities reduce the number of women and girls in prolonged preventive detention on the basis of a legal assistance program.

Note that with the support of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), ICDH was able to distribute hygiene kits to the 231 women and girls in detention.
