iciHaiti - Elections : The IVEC suggests the postponement of elections 05/10/2016 08:56:02
Following the passage of the Matthew Category 4 hurricane on Haiti, which caused considerable damage [under evaluation] in the Southern Department, Southeast, Great Anses, Nippes, Centre and West and affected partly other departments; face the deterioration of several electoral infrastructure in several constituencies of the country, the Initiative of Volunteer Workers for Change (IVEC - Initiative des Volontaires Engagés pour le Changement) suggests to the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) to postpone the elections planned Sunday, October 9, 2016.
The IVEC stresses that sensitive materials related to the electoral process may not be able to arrive in time in some cities in the South, Southeast, Grande-Anse, Nippes among others, because of the conditions created by the passage of Matthew, without forget the travel difficulties of displacement of voters severely affected. The organization believes it would be better to hold presidential and legislative elections within 30 days from October 9 to ensure an efficient voting procedure.
