iciHaiti - Politic : The MiOEH of ParlAmericas welcomes the agreement signed
The Independent Electoral Observation Mission in Haiti (MiOEH) ParlAmericas, an independent network of parliamentarians from 35 countries of the Americas, North and South, Central America and the Caribbean, took note of an agreement between the executive and legislative power, to ensure the continuity of the State and complete the electoral process on April 24, 2016 "This agreement is an important step in a political process that will lead to the democratic transfer of executive power and to the election of representative authorities at national and local level."

The MiOEH is pleased that the agreement invites the actors and actresses of civil society to be involved in the provisional government designation process and the revival of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP). It calls on the sectors concerned to nominate within the CEP representatives able to inspire public confidence.

"The search for consensus is the pillar of all inclusive democratic process," said Thomas Cormier, Head of Mission at ParlAmericas. "The agreement encourages the inclusion of political actors and civil society, offering them the opportunity to contribute to the organization of elections in a peaceful climate. It is only from such a context that the democratic institutions of the country will be able to meet the social and economic priorities of the Haitian people."

The MiOEH reaffirms its respect for the sovereignty of Haiti and reiterates its commitment to continue its observation of the electoral process as part of a mandate including support for democratic institutions and political participation of women.

Recall that the MiOEH in Haiti is composed of Ms. Gina Godoy, Member of the National Assembly of Ecuador (2nd Vice President ParlAmericas and President of the Group of Women Parliamentarians); Ms. Ligia Fallas, Member of the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica (Member of the Board of Directors of ParlAmericas); Sen. Máxima Apaza Millares, Member of the Plurinational Legislative Assembly of Bolivia; Carmen Omonte, Congressman of the Republic of Peru and Luis Alberto Batres, member of the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador.
