iciHaiti - Health : Conference debate on medicines in Haiti 21/01/2016 09:55:10 The illicit medicines trade is increasingly visible in the streets, in shops and on public transport in the country, despite legislation prohibiting this informal sale. In the West department out over 600 pharmacies surveyed only 186 have an operating license from the Ministry of Health. The medicines sold on the street, often cheaper and more accessible, are only the visible part of a very lucrative market. The complexity of circuits and the multiplication of intermediaries makes any traceability difficult and encourages counterfeiting. From where come these medicines ? What dangers for consumers ? How to fight against this scourge ? Speakers: Junior Clervius, Directorate Pharmacy, Medicine and Traditional Medicine of the Ministry of Health (Department Head essential medicines); Yanik Fouche, Pharmacist, Professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of the State University of Haiti, former President of the Pharmacists Association of Haiti; Lionel Étienne, owner of the import and distribution agency Eurofar and co-owner of the pharmacy "PHARMADIS".
