iciHaiti - Security : Laying the foundation stone of the new National Centre of Meteorology

Monday as part of the project "Climate Services to reduce the vulnerability of the country," the Ministry of Agriculture, the Canadian Cooperation and the World Meteorological Organization, proceeded to the laying of the first stone of the new National Centre of Meteorology (CNM), which will also house the National Service of Water Resources (SNRE) in front of the Toussaint Louverture International airport.

Fully financed to the tune of $6.5 million by Canada, the execution of this infrastructure is given to UNOPS (United Nations Office for Project Services). The works should started in December 2015 and be completed in September 2016.

In his speech, Michel Jarraud, Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organization said he believes this new building is an important step for Haiti, which will allow it to modernize the hydrological prevention infrastructure, and mitigate risks associated, including flooding.
