Haiti - News : Some news here and there... 09/09/2012 13:44:44 Barely eight months after it was launched, the "Centre d’Appui pour le Renforcement des Maisons Endommagées" (CARMEN), is proudly counting its successes – 700 houses repaired, 300 in the process of repairs, and 6000 houses assessed. CARMEN has also trained 5,000 participants, including 600 masons, in anti-earthquake construction techniques, hosted by the Ministry of Public Work, Transport and Communications (MTPTC). 46th International Literacy Day The 46th International Literacy Day was celebrated on 8 September on the theme "Pa konn li pa konn ekri, fòk sa fini nan peyi Dayiti". Oswald Thimoléon, the Secretary of State for Literacy recalled that measures have been taken by the Government Martelly-Lamothe to eradicate the problem of illiteracy in the country stressing that "it is more than important that all Haitians are literate." 5 million gourdes recovered... According to the latest report of the coordination of Mixed Brigades of Interventions (BMI), relative to the various control operations in the fight against smuggling, between 1 and 21 August 2012, 330 seizures were made between 1 and 31 July 2012. The report states that the amount of revenue collected, amounted to more than 5 million gourdes : 633,458.28 gourdes in Terrier Rouge ; 2,393,353.98 in Ganthier ; 246,215.16 gourdes to Morne Cabrit ; 1,273,587.23 gourdes at the point of Source Matelas and 510,055.51 at the border point of Brache.
