Friday in Cannes, Sean Penn speaking to France declared "France has taken a lot of commitments there [in Haiti] like other countries, including the U.S. [...] France has made great efforts to help Haiti, but we expect that these commitments are fully respected and maintained." In his evening speech, the actor declared "Politically, I hope that Presidents Obama and Holland will bring their common support to the young government of Haiti. The new Minister of Justice will be merciless....* Me Jean Renel Sanon, the new Minister of Justice and Public Security [the 3rd since the accession to power of President Martelly], promised at his inauguration, to continue the work begun by his predecessor and affirmed that his ministry "will live up to the ideal set by the Head of State." The new minister, an ardent defender of the police, has promised to crack down against those who attack the police. "I will be merciless against those who attack the police.
