"Sophia Martelly Day"
May 5, 2012 was proclaimed "Sophia Martelly Day" by Ms. Bower, Mayor of the City of Miami Beach, at the opening ceremony of the 2nd edition of "Women in Production", at Beach Convention Center. This prestigious award is honoring the many contributions of the First Lady of Haiti, Sophia Martelly "The First Lady of the Republic of Haiti has spent most of his life to take care of the elderly and other social causes in Haiti," declared the Mayor of the City of Miami Beach. Sophia Martelly warmly thanked the City of Miami Beach from this honor, which reinforces its firm conviction of a Haitian community whose social living conditions will improve.

Challenge of the poverty of Haiti in the reconstruction process
What's the challenge of the extreme poverty in Haiti with the process of reconstruction of the country ? The French Institute in Haiti (IFH) invites you to discuss of possible answers with the specialist in International Law of Human Rights, Gédéon Jean, Wednesday, May 16, at 7pm, to the IFH. Lawyer to the bar of Port-au-Prince, Gédéon Jean holds a Masters in International Law of Human Rights (mention fundamental rights), and he is also Director of the Center for Analysis and Research in Human Rights (ACHR). "From an approach based on human rights, I want to provide some analysis to help understand the extreme poverty in Haiti as a challengein relation to the reconstruction process," declared the guest speaker.

$181 million of FDI in 2011 for Haiti
Haiti received $181 million in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in 2011, according to estimates by the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean. This amount is a record of all time for FDIs in Haiti and an increase of almost 21% over the previous year where Haiti received $150 million. While being encouraging, compared with the 2 billion 371 million of FDI that the Dominican Republic attracted in 2011, we can better the challenges we still have to overcome to make Haiti a land investment.

$179 million for the Port of Fort-Liberté
The Port of Fort-Liberté will be built with the help of the U.S. government at a cost of $179 million has announced the President Martelly on the margins of the inauguration ceremony of the vocational school, Don Bosco in Fort-Liberté.
