The vaccination campaign against cholera is progressing well
Dr. Gabriel Thimoté, Director General of the Ministry of Health reported last week that 20,000 people have already been vaccinated on the 100,000 planned as part of the pilot campaign [begun April 12, 2012] in the departments of West and Artibonite at a rate of 50,000 per department. According to Dr. Thimoté, vaccinated persons have so far responded well, there has been no undesirable side effects, which allows to consider the expansion of vaccination program. He indicated that the Ministry was looking for the necessary resources to be able to vaccinate more people on the entire national territory.

S.O.S Vorbes
Drivers who use the national road # 2 asked the company Vorbes et Fils to resume the repair work of the road in order to avoid accidents. Many drivers complain about the work stoppage, which according to them is a serious problem. At the level of Morne Tapion, for example, workers of the company have removed, since several days, the damaged portion of the asphalt, creating a ditch on the road. So far, the company has not yet resumed the rehabilitation works and this ditch represents an imminent danger that could cause accidents especially at night. Citizens are asking officials of Vorbes company, to complete the work as soon as possible for not having to deplore tragic accident.

Downward trend in the IDP camps
The number of people living in displacement camps in and around Haiti's capital Port au Prince has declined by 14% to an estimated 421,000 since February, according to figures collected by IOM. This is the steepest decline in the camp population since early last year. This decrease is the result of several well-funded programs, and administered in part by the IOM, which has provided housing solutions for return, including rental solutions for families who were otherwise too poor to leave the camps and find alternative accommodation.

The Ministry of Commerce wishes to formalize the informal trade
The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MCI), wishes the establishment of a code of Haitian business, taking into account the new realities of trade in Haiti. In the long term, MCI wishes to formalize the informal trade. Meetings have been held with merchants across the country. The objective of Ministry [with support from the IDB] would be to help the informal trade to expand their business in order to integrate the formal system. The project envisages the establishment of micro-industrial parks, with the necessary equipment that would foster the emergence of products that come out of various sectors (woodworking, sewing etc...)

The Senate vote 3 new laws
The Organic Law of of the protection of citizen, the law on current affairs and that on the amending of the Order of September 22 on the private property of the state was votez in the Senate last Thursday. According to the Senator Youri Latortue the Senate will make efforts to approve other legal texts pending, before the end of the mandate of 10 of their colleagues on May 8, 2012...
