iciHaiti - Agriculture : Towards the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding with Colombia
On Tuesday, January 28, 2025, Agronomist Vemel Joseph, the Minister of Agriculture, organized a working session with directors and coordinators of the Ministry around the Memorandum of Understanding signed with his Colombian counterpart, Martha Carvajalino Villegas, on the sidelines of President Gustavo Petto's visit to Haiti on January 22 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-44129-haiti-jacmel-joint-declaration-of-the-axes-of-cooperation-between-haiti-and-colombia.html

This meeting, which took place less than a week after the agreement between the two countries, aimed to discuss, among other things, the operational mechanisms to be considered quickly, with a view to materializing this agreement.

Let's recall that the main objective of this agreement is to establish the foundations for mutually beneficial inter-ministerial technical cooperation prioritizing the exchange of knowledge and technologies in the areas of food security, peasant, family, community agriculture and rural marketing.

It provides that cooperation mechanisms will be explored, in particular for the exchange of information and experiences, the development of capacities through technical visits and specialized workshops, training programs and the publication of technical materials and the dissemination of information.

The MARNDR executives, having contributed their expertise and experiences in the perspective of the actions to be undertaken for an efficient implementation of this agreement with Colombia, took advantage of this opportunity to welcome the unprecedented participatory approach prioritized by the Minister.

For his part, Minister Vernet Joseph recalled that the active involvement of each executive is a sine, qua non condition for the full success of this Initiative. In this sense, he invited them to play their part fully, in a spirit of collaboration, solidarity, transparency and culture of results.

Minister Joseph announced another meeting at the end of this week to finalize the work plan to be submitted to the competent authorities of the two States.
