iciHaiti - Environment : Forest cover 42.8% in Dominican Republic, 3.5% in Haiti 06/01/2025 09:00:15
According to a study by the Dominican Ministry of the Environment (2021), the National Forest Inventory has identified 1.8 million hectares of forest in the country, which is equivalent to 37.7% of the territory, to which is added 5.1% in fruit trees, such as coffee and cocoa in the shade. The objective of the study is "to provide updated information on the state of forests, their composition and stocks of volume, biomass and carbon, in order to highlight the importance of their preservation and their role in water production." 42.8% of the Dominican territory of forest cover which contrasts sharply with the 3.5% of forest cover in Haiti which has suffered great environmental devastation, according to the same study due to soil erosion, wild deforestation and an uncontrolled desertification process.
