On Thursday, January 2, 2024, Youri Chevry, the Mayor of Port-au-Prince, visited the barracks of the Port-au-Prince Municipal Fire Department (SIMPAP), four years after setting it up https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-30697-haiti-security-the-town-hall-of-port-au-prince-grateful-to-its-firefighters.html

This visit allowed the Mayor to assess the functioning of this vital service and to note the many difficulties that the firefighters face "The working conditions of the firefighters are difficult and practically none of their equipment is operational anymore," he said.

Faced with this observation, Mayor Chevry committed to strengthening SIMPAP by implementing several measures, including the acquisition of new equipment and the construction of a dormitory to improve the living and working conditions of firefighters.
