iciHaiti - Port-de-Paix flood : Cleaning, clearing and rehabilitation operation
On Friday, December 27, 2024, the City of Port-de-Paix announced a series of important measures to respond to the consequences of the devastating floods of December 22 and 23, 2024, which caused significant material damage and deeply affected the community https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-43931-icihaiti-port-de-paix-state-of-environmental-emergency-declared.html

Faced with this critical situation, the City has decided to strengthen its sanitation team to accelerate cleaning, clearing and rehabilitation work in the most affected areas. This initiative aims to restore healthy and safe living conditions for all residents.

Priority actions:
- Cleaning and clearing clogged ravines and canals to reduce the risk of new flooding;
- Collection and management of waste accumulated in affected neighborhoods;
- Assessment and prevention to prevent such disasters from happening again.

However, it is important to note that, to date, the Port-de-Paix City Hall has not yet received the aid promised by the State, which complicates response efforts. Despite this lack of support, the Municipality is continuing its commitment to the population and continues to mobilize its limited resources to manage the situation.

The City Hall invites the entire population to collaborate with the teams on the ground and to respect the instructions to facilitate the work in progress. It also calls on local partners, humanitarian organizations and people of good will to join forces to support the municipality in this difficult period.
