On Tuesday, December 10, 2024, the National Office of Civil Aviation (OFNAC) announced the resumption of operations at Toussaint Louverture International Airport, closed since November 11 after gunfire by armed gangs against 3 Spirit Airlines planes (at least 7 impacts https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-43614-haiti-flash-spirit-airlines-plane-hit-in-flight-by-several-bullets-video.html ), JetBlue (1 impact) and American Airlines (1 impact) https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-43623-icihaiti-insecurity-the-ministry-of-justice-condemns-the-shootings-on-planes.html
This closure follows the decision taken Tuesday, November 12, 2024 in the afternoon, by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in a NOTAM (notice to pilots) temporarily prohibiting American civil aviation operations on the territory and in the airspace of Haiti at an altitude below 10,000 feet for at least 30 days
The airport could begin receiving international flights from this Wednesday, December 11, 2024 confirmed Raphaël Hosty, the Minister of Transport, without however specifying the airlines that will resume operating this week.
