iciHaiti - USA : PEPFAR fights against HIV/AIDS in Haiti
Sunday, December 1, 2024, World AIDS Day, is an opportunity to recall the efforts of the United States to prevent and treat HIV/AIDS under its President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, better known as PEPFAR in Haiti (launched in 2003 by President George W. Bush).

PEPFAR’s programs in Haiti include :

- Distribution of medication to treat HIV/AIDS to vulnerable populations
- Testing services
- Support for vulnerable children and women
- Training for healthcare workers

However, the fight against HIV/AIDS goes beyond medicine. Gender-based violence (GBV) remains a significant barrier to progress, especially for women and girls.

Survivors of violence face higher risks of HIV infection and struggle with access to treatment. Tackling GBV is essential to ending the HIV epidemic.

The United States continues to work in Haiti to address the root causes of HIV and combat GBV - building a future of equity, health, and hope.
