Sunday, November 3rd, 2024, Agricultural Engineer Vernet Joseph, Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR) at the head of a large delegation, made a guided tour of the Agricultural Technology Park of the American University of the Caribbean (AUC) of Les Cayes.

This park offers a range of services to the Southern region and is used to measure the parameters that can contribute to the improvement and promotion of sustainable agriculture in Haiti.

This visit, carried out as a prelude to the organization of the 3rd edition of the Scientific Day of the Technological Innovation Project in Agriculture and Agroforestry commonly known as PITAG, allowed us to discover the work carried out in the fields of agriculture, livestock breeding as well as the various soil, water, and phytopathological laboratories.

Minister Joseph, in taking stock of the importance of research in promoting agriculture, believes that there is a need to change the paradigm: "[...] We need to focus more on research that can identify the major constraints that hinder the expansion of agriculture in the country with a view to increasing production while creating wealth."

As a concrete measure, the Minister proposes to establish a collaboration protocol between the American University of Les Cayes, which will be joined by other universities.
