iciHaiti - Migration crisis : The Consulate of Santiago in action
Mrs. Sherline Celiscar Consul Chief of Post a.i. of the Consulate General of Haiti in Santiago in the Dominican Republic is at the bedside of the Haitian Community, in the Cibao region which is experiencing difficult days, hit by a very worrying migratory crisis https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-43334-haiti-flash-repatriation-of-10-000-haitians-per-week-the-great-hunt-has-begun-in-the-dominican-rep.html

Faced with this situation, the Consulate informs the public that concrete actions have been taken to support the Haitian Community in this ordeal.

The first actions involved a series of meetings with local authorities around respect for the principles and international agreements between the two countries, in particular the 1999 agreements on respect for the repatriation protocol.

In addition, the Consulate has set up an emergency unit to reinforce the Migrants Section, working permanently on the issue.

The Consulate has a better view of the Santiago deportation center with the presence of community leaders who prevent excessive action but above all ensure respect for the rights of our compatriots as well as their interests.

In addition, the Consulate offers, through organizations and leaders, food donations intended for arrested compatriots but also for the most vulnerable in difficult situations to move around due to the situation in the bateys, among others.

The Consulate intends to maintain communication with the Community through local leaders on the evolution of the situation while working to continue to provide solutions within the limits of its attributions and possibilities.
