Haiti - Justice : 1,425 Haitians are detained in Dominican prisons 10/10/2024 09:35:16 According to the latest available data from the General Directorate of Penitentiary Services, Dominican there would be 1,425 Haitians imprisoned for various crimes ranging from drug trafficking to homicide. Haitians represent 80% of all foreign prisoners detained in the Dominican Republic. The Haitian prison population represents 5.4% of the total Dominican prison population (25,987 inmates) The largest group of Haitian prisoners is held in the La Victoria penitentiary (338 inmates) Of the total number of foreign prisoners (1,771), 1,262 (71%) are in preventive detention and 509 have been sentenced. Other foreign prisoners held in the Dominican Republic 102 Venezuelans; 91 Colombians; 34 Americans; 19 Dutch; 14 Spaniards; 11 Peruvians; 8 Italians, 8 Canadians, 4 Russians; 4 Jamaicans; 3 Cubans; 3 Argentines; 3 Nicaraguans; 3 Germans; 3 Brazilians; 3 Chinese; 2 Bolivians; 2 Mexicans; 2 Ecuadorians; 2 Portuguese; 2 Romanians; 2 Ukrainians; 2 French; 1 Australian; 1 Bahamian; 1 Bulgarian; 1 Filipino; 1 Israeli; 1 Polish; 1 native of Curaçao and 1 Chilean.
