The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) needs $48 million to help more than 600,000 Haitians purchase and produce food.

Violence and displacement have significantly reduced agricultural production and disrupted markets, leaving half of Haiti’s population acutely food insecure.

FAO has demonstrated that local food production and access to seeds are sustainable and cost-effective solutions that are essential to averting a major food crisis.

The agency plans to support displaced and host families through cash transfers, combined with agricultural input packages and training. This approach will allow crisis-affected households to meet their immediate needs while producing food for their own consumption and sale.
