iciHaiti - BOJNUAH : Firm condemnation of discriminatory and violent racial practices
Saturday, August 31, on the occasion of the International Day for People of African Descent, the Office of the United Nations Youth Organization of Africa in Haiti (BOJNUAH) welcomed this 4th Day celebrated for the first time on August 31, 2021 by the United Nations to promote the extraordinary contributions of the African diaspora in the world and to eliminate all forms of discrimination against people of African descent.

Knowing that Latin America has nearly 134 million people of African descent and according to a report by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), these people suffer from poverty, lack of access to basic services and inequality. For example, in Brazil, the overall poverty rate is 11.5%, but among people of African descent it is 25.5%. History is repeating itself in other countries such as Ecuador, Colombia and Haiti, the first independent black republic in the world.

This August 31 is an important date for the 54 States of the African continent and the Member States of the United Nations, including Haiti, to strongly condemn the discriminatory and violent racial practices and the excessive use of force that law enforcement continues to use against Africans and people of African descent and to also condemn the structural racism in criminal justice systems around the world.
