iciHaiti - Economy : Follow-up of discussions on the new Tax Code
Friday, July 26, 2024, at the initiative of Presidential Advisor Laurent Saint-Cyr, Prime Minister Garry Conille, accompanied by several members of his cabinet and Ketleen Florestal, Minister of Economy and Finance, met with a group of Employer Associations at the Villa d'Accueil around the new tax code.

While generally favorable to the initiative to adopt such a code, the opinions expressed during this meeting suggest that the Government perfect its content and adapt tax policies to better take into account current socio-economic realities.

These associations consider this adaptation essential to strengthen the competitiveness of the national economy and encourage a sustainable, inclusive economic recovery that generates wealth and remunerative jobs, in the collective interest. They stress that the application of the code in its current form could lead to undesirable repercussions for taxpayers, including existing businesses and interested investors, faced with the many challenges and demands of international competitiveness.

In view of the concerns raised, the Prime Minister and his advisors agreed on the need to continue the consultation and working workshops on this draft new tax code, which is scheduled to come into force next October.

Advisor Laurent Saint-Cyr believes that this approach, designed in a spirit of constructive partnership, will allow the Government to continue to address economic problems in a fair manner, while taking into account the difficulties and challenges faced by our businesses and the population as a whole.
