iciHaiti - Security : Luis Abinader issues a warning to Haitian gangs

Monday July 8, 2024 during his weekly press conference, Dominican President Luis Abinader, warned the Haitian armed bands that if they cross the border and enter Dominican territory "[...] it will be worse for you than in Haiti," Abinader said, adding "I can also tell you that today's armed forces are very different from those of four years ago in terms of equipment and infrastructure, and they are ready to defend the country with very high motivation."
Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfam, the Dominican Minister of Defense present at the press conference in response to questions from journalists on border security responded "the border strip is completely calm [...] Our Armed Forces are prepared, trained and very attentive to everything that is happening at the border and in Haiti. We have very good contacts with Haitian institutions, with Haitian personnel and so far there is not a single indication that Haitian gang members are going to come to the Dominican Republic."
