iciHaiti - Diaspora NOTICE : Symposium on Haitian art at the Tampa Museum of Art (FL)
Organized around the theme "Reframing Haitian Art: The Symposium", this event which will take place on June 9, 2024, will bring together several scientists and artists, including Edouard Duval Carrié.

The symposium will focus on Haitian works and artists whose creations appear in the Arthur Albrecht collection of the Tampa Museum of Art in Florida. This collection includes 89 paintings and sculptures, as well as 55 pieces of related art created by artists who started at the Art Center or who frequented it during their careers. The "Arthur Albrecht Revocable Trust" donated this collection to the Tampa Museum of Art in 2022. It belonged to Arthur Albrecht, a passionate collector of Haitian art.

The symposium will be divided into four sessions. two in the morning and two in the afternoon. The first session, led by Edouard Duval Carrié, will focus on the theme "Art Center and art networks". The second session, presented by Brown University Humanities Professor Asa Messer, will address the theme "Artists and Their Legacies".

The afternoon will begin with the third session, which will deal with the theme "Care and Preservation : Conservation of Haitian Art" and will be moderated by Joanna Robotham, curator of modern and contemporary art.

The last session will be a guided tour of the exhibition "Reframing Haitian Art : Masterworks from the Arthur Albrecht Collection", led by the curator of the exhibition, Edouard Duval Carrié. This exhibition aims to reframe the context of modern Haitian art. The paintings in this gallery, all masterpieces, bear witness to the unique and complex history of Haiti as well as its rich cultural heritage. Before the exhibition, the Arthur Albrecht collection required restoration. Thanks to grants from the Bank of America Art Conservation Project, the museum was able to clean and restore these works, returning them almost to their original state.

The exhibition will end on June 23, 2024.
