iciHaiti - Airport : Around 350 houses have already been demolished
Around 350 houses were demolished in a 35m zone of the perimeter of Toussaint Louverture International Airport in order to secure the airport. However, around 80 two-story houses beyond the security zone set at 35m, which overlook the airport represent a potential security risk for the airport, will also be destroyed soon in a second phase.

A road will be built to secure the airport perimeter as well as police or military posts to provide security and surveillance.

Nearly 200 homeowners have already received their compensation check and are satisfied. Compensation in the first phase ranged from 500,000 gourdes (a piece of house) up to 32 million gourdes.

In the second phase of compensation checks which will go Up to 285 million gourdes, according to Wilcain Noël, director of the Tabarre Town Hall.
