As part of the commemoration of the 221st anniversary of the death of Toussaint Louverture Jean Gardy Marius, the Consul represented the Consulate General of Haiti in Santiago at the 17th edition of the death of Toussaint, an event organized by the "Regroupement des Amants d'Haïti" and its 10 departments (REAH-10) at the Barcelo Lina hotel.

During his speech Jean Gardy Marius called for Toussaint to be an example of courage and strategist in order to recover the country which is on the brink of collapse "In this moment of crisis and political turbulence, we must appeal to the vision of Toussaint Louverture to serve as a compass to solidify the chain of unity and solidarity between us as a people.

Being descendants of such a great hero, we need a new impetus, a new consciousness of fraternity and patriotism."

Marius believes that it is time for us to unite as a Nation and work together to overcome challenges, to commit to building a future, based on social justice, equality and respect for human rights.

In honoring the memory of Toussaint Louverture, we commit to continuing his legacy of fighting for freedom and justice. We are committed to building a stronger, more united and more prosperous Haiti for all its citizens.

Together, we can overcome the obstacles that stand before us and realize the dream of a Haiti where every person has the opportunity to realize their full potential.

It is our duty towards our ancestors, towards our children and towards ourselves in order to find a solution to the endless Haitian crisis."
