Thursday February 1st, 2024, Academician Dany Laferrière received the Grand Prix of French-speaking Ambassadors in Paris for his Little Treatise on Racism republished in 2023 by Éditions Grasset, in France, under the title "Petit traité du racisme en Amérique" (Little Treatise on Racism in America).

The Embassy of Haiti in France extends its warm congratulations to the Haitian writer, member of the French Academy, Dany Laferrière

"The Embassy welcomes this new distinction adding to the rich record of this illustrious compatriot who constantly carries high the torch of Haitian creative genius.

Under the auspices of the French Academy, the Grand Prix du Groupe des Ambassadeurs francophones de France (GAPF) is awarded every year to a great French-language writer, as was previously the case for Amin Maalouf and Frédéric Mitterrand.

In "Petit traité du racisme en Amérique", published in 2021 for the first time in Quebec under the title "Le petit traité du racisme”, Dany Laferrière perceptively poses the question of the tragedy of racism. He denounces, among other things, the contempt, the discomfort and the blindness of this fact which changes the other into a monster who must be shot first, or a cockroach who must be crushed with his contempt.

In its capacity as a founding member of the GAFF, composed of around a hundred Ambassadors accredited to the French Republic, the Embassy of Haiti in Paris warmly thanks the other members of the group for the judicious choice of Dany Laferrière, worthy son of the land of Haiti whose immense talent is a source of inspiration and pride for French speakers around the world."
