January 6, 2024: (after more than 2 months of interruption, the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP) has decided to resume the publication of information on the cholera situation in Haiti. Note that due to insecurity on the ground and the inaccessibility of certain areas controlled by gangs, this information remains partial). Data calculated since the first confirmed case (October 3rd, 2022) according to data from the Directorate of Epidemiology, Laboratories and Research of the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP).

Total suspected cases: 77,304 since October 3rd, 2022 +3,615*
Total new confirmed cases: 4,608 cases +528**
Total hospitalized cases (suspected and confirmed): 73,862 since October 3 + 8,124*
Total deaths: 1,161* deaths ((876 institutional deaths (+100) and 285*** community deaths (+7)) +107

* Partial, since November 6, 2023.
**Based only on cases tested, i.e. only 17.6% of suspected cases.
*** Community update since November 6, 2023, very partial and rare due to insecurity and difficulties of access to areas controlled by gangs.

30-39 years: 8,628 cases (+870)
40-49 years: 6,565 cases (+694)
50-59 years old: 5,047 cases (+567)
60-69 years: 3,895 cases (+528)
70-79 years: 2,244 cases (+312)
80 years and over: 960 cases (+132)

Men: 53.07% men (-) Women 46.93% (+)

Number of tests carried out: 13,618 +1,444 since November 6, 2023

Positivity rate (average since the start of the epidemic): 33.83% (+), previous 33.51%

Definitions :
Suspected cases:
Any person with acute watery, profuse diarrhea with or without vomiting and dehydration
Confirmed case:
Any suspected case with a positive culture for “Vibrio cholerae” or presenting an epidemiological link with a confirmed case of cholera
Hospitalized case:
Any suspected or confirmed case who spends at least 24 hours in a treatment center
Institutional death:
Any suspected or confirmed case who dies in a care center.
Community death:
Any suspected case who dies outside a care institution.
