iciHaiti - Diaspora France : Exhibition «Nous et les invisibles»
The MAGNIN-A gallery in Paris, is pleased to present the first solo exhibition in France of the Haitian painter Shneider Léon Hilaire, "Nou ak sa n pa wè yo" (Us and the Invisibles - We and the Invisibles), curated by Régine Cuzin.

Born in Port-au-Prince in Haiti in 1990, Shneider Léon Hilaire began drawing at a very young age, encouraged by his mother. Studying at the Art Center of Port-au-Prince, he developed his own visual language and emancipated himself from traditional Haitian aesthetics. Its dark tones, its gradients of black and white, its chiaroscuro, contrast sharply with the very bright color palette of its peers. His universe is imbued with the mysticism and spirituality of voodoo, an African heritage that came from Benin with slavery.

In his paintings, Shneider questions the society in which he evolves, but also its beliefs, its ideologies and its illusions. For him, every work of art has within it the representation of the doubts of an era. Carriers of memory, his symbolist paintings transcribe above all the popular stories, the tales and the legends which are told at nightfall and thus bear witness to this rich Haitian oral heritage.
