iciHaiti - Culture : AFD supports the Art Center in promoting its works
Following the signing of two financing agreements with the Fondation Connaissance et Liberté (FOKAL) and the French Institute of Paris, respectively in November 2022 and October 2023, the French Development Agency (AFD) signed a contract with the Center Pompidou and the company IdéesCulture with a view to supporting the promotion of the collections of the Art Center in Port-au-Prince. The signing of these contracts is part of component 2 of the "Tanbou" project (3 million Euros), the overall objective of which is to contribute to the structuring of the cultural and creative industries in Haiti.

Working since 1944 to promote artistic creation in Haiti, the Art Center has gradually established itself as a key player in the cultural and creative industries sector in the country. Considered the cradle of the visual arts, it has allowed the emergence of several generations of renowned painters and sculptors. Thanks to its intermediation and artistic promotion activities, the Art Center contributes to the dissemination of Haitian visual arts to a wide audience, both national and international. Today, with a heritage of more than 6,000 works, the Art Center makes the conservation and promotion of its collections a major pillar of its strategy. From 2023 to 2027, component 2 of the "Tanbou" project financed by the AFD to the tune of 200,000 euros will support the Art Center in the promotion of its collections.

Led by the Georges-Pompidou National Center for Art and Culture, the first part of the project will contribute to strengthening the capacities of the Art Center’s human resources. Recognized for its expertise in the field, the Center Pompidou will offer Art Center teams training in archiving, conservation and promotion of works of art. With a view to efficiency, Pompidou experts will carry out a preliminary analysis of the needs of the Art Center and work in pairs with its staff. The Art Center will also benefit from support in setting up its new museum and moving its collections to its new premises.

As part of the second part of component 2 of "Tanbou", AFD signed a service provision contract with the company IdéesCulture with a view to implementing museum management software for the benefit of the Art Center. Accessible via the Center's website, this software will allow the cataloging, management and publication of the Art Center's works. It will also promote the design and creation of digital exhibitions. Through this software, the AFD aims to contribute to a better promotion of the works of the Art Center and more broadly, to a wide dissemination of Haitian art locally and internationally.
