iciHaiti - Cap-Haitien : Commemoration of the 220th anniversary of the Battle of Vertières
Saturday November 18, 2023, as part of the 220th anniversary of the Battle of Vertières, which preceded the proclamation of the independence of Haiti, the first black republic, on January 1st, 1804, the traditional mass followed by the Te Deum took place at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Cap-Haitien.

This Eucharistic ceremony was attended in particular by the Prime Minister a.i., Ariel Henry, the President of the Municipal Commission, Mayor Yvrose Pierre, Deputy Mayor Patrick Almonor, representatives of state bodies in the North and hundreds of students from different schools.

It should be noted that a wreath-laying ceremony took place in front of the Vertières memorial, marking the authorities' respect for those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom.

Ms. Yvrose Pierre, told the media that the Battle of Vertières marks the peak of the determination and resilience of the Haitian people in the face of oppression. "It is the day when our heroes, guided by the vision of freedom, challenged the colonial forces with indomitable courage. Their efforts paved the way for independence, making our country the world's first black republic."
