iciHaiti - CARICOM Summit : Canada determined to ensure security and stability in the Caribbean
Wednesday October 18, 2023, on the sidelines of the Canada-CARICOM Summit in Ottawa, Maria Isabel Salvador, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Haiti, spoke with Mélanie Joly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada.

Maria Isabel Salvador, stressed that the deterioration of the situation in Haiti affects the region as a whole. She thanked Canada for its contribution to the professionalization of the Haitian National Police (PNH)

The trafficking of firearms and ammunition is one of the main threats facing the Caribbean. Organized crime, particularly drug and arms trafficking, supported by corruption, compromises sustainable development, she explained.

For her part Mélanie Joly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada declared "With Maria Isabel Salvador (BINUH), we discussed the crisis in Haiti and the areas in which the inhabitants need support. Determined to ensure security and stability in the region, Canada and its partners are committed to supporting the solutions proposed by the Haitians."
