iciHaiti - Les Cayes: The Minister of Culture is interested in young prisoners
On the sidelines of the official launch of the departmental youth forums for Peace and sustainable development, Raymonde Rival, the Minister of Youth, accompanied by representatives of the United Nations system in Haiti, visited the inmates of the civil prison of Les Cayes.

Madame Rival inquired about the detention conditions of the 54 young people in conflict with the law while speaking out in favor of taking charge of their cases and improving their situation. She took the opportunity to invite citizens in general and young people in particular to avoid risky behavior and direct their lives away from the prison world.

Minister Rival took note of the constructive exchanges which took place between the judicial authorities and representatives of the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) on the solutions envisaged to deal with the various problems relating to prolonged detention in Haiti.

The presence of the Minister alongside representatives of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights illustrates her determination to work to respect life and human dignity for a more harmonious Haiti.

Furthermore, the Minister called on young people from the Great South to commit to Peace and sustainable development during the launch of the departmental youth forums which took place in Les Cayes on October 2 in the presence of the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations in Haiti, Madame Maria Isabel Salvador.

"The path to Peace has been everywhere and always strewn with pitfalls, but the nobility of the mission entrusted to you should inspire you and invite you to commit yourself every day. Because it will be about instilling and sharing values of solidarity, tolerance and respect in the neighborhoods. It will also be about ensuring the promotion of Peace tools such as training and education which promote exchange, sharing and dialogue," Minister Rival explained to representatives of various youth associations gathered in these forum which will be held in 144 municipalities until October 10, 2023 around the theme "Konbit Jèn pou Lapè ak devlopman dirab ann Ayiti".

"Be true workers of Peace to establish a climate of Peace in your neighborhoods! Seize this opportunity to be great architects of this lasting peace essential to your fulfillment and the development of our dear Haiti ! Remain agents of Peace in order to facilitate better living conditions for your brothers and sisters," concluded the Minister, urging young people to get involved for a peaceful and stable Haiti.
