I strongly condemn the pressure, the inappropriate threats exerted and the drastic measures adopted by the Dominican authorities, under the Presidency of President Luis Abinader, against the Haitian population. These pressures go so far as to impose sanctions on Haitian personalities, such as former senators Jean Baptiste Bien Aimé, Jacques Sauveur Jean and Wanique Pierre, under the pretext that the latter support the construction on Haitian national territory of the unique work of catchment of transboundary waters of the Massacre River, while the Dominican Republic, for its part, has already built 11. I appeal to the authorities in place in my country, Haiti, to fully assume their responsibility in defending the fundamental interests of the Haitian people, in accordance with the treaty of February 20, 1929 and the international conventions governing this issue. Reasonable national solidarity must prevail in all circumstances. It is the responsibility of the Haitian authorities to guarantee that the work undertaken in Haiti scrupulously respects technical and legal standards, for the benefit of the Haitian communities in the Northeast region of Haiti, without causing harm to our neighbor and brother people of the Republic. Dominican. Haiti and the Dominican Republic are two wings of the same bird, dedicated to cohabiting in peace and harmony. The responsible citizens of these two nations which share this island must be alert to any excess of power or disproportionate electoral maneuver, which could jeopardize the good neighborly relations existing between the two peoples.
