iciHaiti - Freedom of the press : 25 Haitian journalists with scholarships, trained in Washington
Friday, April 28, 2023, as prelude to the celebration of World Freedom Day (this May 3rd), Mrs. Émmelie Prophète Milcé, the Minister of Communication was received at the United States Embassy in Port-au-Prince by the Chargé d'Affaires, Éric W. Stromayer, as part of a ceremony organized to welcome a group of 24 Haitian journalist with scholarships who were recently trained at the Voice of America in Washington, United States .

This event was an opportunity for Minister Prophète Milcé to emphasize the importance of freedom of expression in the functioning of any democratic State. She also took the opportunity to congratulate the recipients for this new step taken in the exercise of the noble profession of journalist and also to greet the initiators of this program sponsored by the Public Affairs Section of the Embassy in collaboration with the Creole Service of the Voice of America.

Let's remember that this training program took place in two stages : from August 13 to 21, 2022 around the theme: "How to investigate and deepen the headlines", and from February 25 to March 4, 2023 with a "Media management" seminar.

World Press Freedom Day on May 3rd is celebrated around the theme: "Shaping a future of rights: freedom of expression as a driver of all other human rights".

It was also an opportunity for the Minister to reiterate her promise to continue to work to strengthen freedom of expression and to create the conditions for its development for the benefit of a balanced society.
